This is a WWII NCO whistle with lanyard, this was worn by many NCO's during action, so others can hear different whistle blasts that mean different actions due to not been able to hear verbal commands due to noises of battle.
The whistle is made from black bakelite or horn and has a grey plaited braid attached, the whistle was worn in the top left or right pocket of the service tunic.
